Module description
This module initiates the preparation of students in Business and Economics. It reviews accounting research in general and facilitates dissertation topic selection by the student and guides their drafting of a preliminary critical literature review. The will be further developed and proofed against the demands of an appropriate research design in Research Methods in Business and Economics. The module will also focuses on quantitative and qualitative methods that can be used in data analysis and in a wider business analysis context.
The aims for this module is to ensure
· That students develop an understanding of the nature, purpose and value of business and commercial research;
· That students are able to conduct a critical literature review using best practice in developing a critical approach;
· Students develop an in-depth knowledge of quantitative research methods and understand how these can be usefully employed in carrying out a research dissertation as well as their application in the wider business context.
Intended Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module students will:
1. Have a dissertation topic with developing workable research questions/hypotheses;
2. Have identified some of the relevant literature and critically reviewed the most pertinent for their proposal;
3. Will be able identify appropriate qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection and analysis for accounting and research problems selecting the appropriate data types, statistical measures, and methods of display using the relevant formula and computer software;
4. Will be able to interpret and describe quantitative data in the context of addresses business and research problems.
